New Guidelines for your

Business’ Pinterest Strategy

Last week the Programs Manager at Pinterest and Tailwind CEO went Live to talk about recent algorithm changes at Pinterest and new guidelines to follow

Here’s the Lowdown on how you should be amending your Pinterest Strategy:

There is a growing emphasis on fresh content. Pinners are looking for new ideas and the algorithm is favouring recent and relevant pins.

Let’s define ‘fresh content’

New images count as fresh content.

So you can still A/B test copywriting by changing up descriptions etc but that alone won’t count as new content.

Testing is still very much important to see which Pin has the best conversions e.g. image with text / without - so I recommend for every Product or blog post you’re creating at least 3 different Pins.

So what does this mean for you?

  • Stick to 15-25 Pins per day (max 30)

  • You should be ditching the 80/20 rule (80% curated content and 20% your own created content).

  • Pin few to none of others people’s pins.

  • Restrict your duplicated content (i.e. Pins you’ve already Pinned).

  • Use Boards which are highly relevant - instead of generic ones e,g, ‘Blog’ or ‘recipe’.

  • Hashtags are no longer relevant

Recent and relevant pins will be favoured in the home and search feed so if you’re using a tool such as Tailwind to schedule Pins make sure you’re spacing out posting from every day to e.g. every 5 days to e.g. 10 boards.

Does this mean that my Pin won’t be seen unless it was posted recently?

No - Pins are still very mich Evergreen on Pinterest - which is great news as this is a huge benefit of the platform.

When Pinning a Pin - only Pin to a max of 10 relevant boards. And be intentional when you Pin that first Pin - it will matter.

I know what you’re thinking (I’m thinking it too!)

This sounds like A LOT of work!

But don’t fret - I’ll be sharing some ways to create images quickly over the coming week so watch out for that over on Instagram.

Also - keep front of mind that Pinterest is still the place to be if you want to drive web traffic, build email lists and drive sames/enquiries. People go there with a plan to purchase unlike other social mdia channels.

And content will still far outlive e.g. Instagram / Facebook so all your effort will be worth it for longer!

Plus nail your organic strategy now and you’ll be in a great place to utilise Promoted Pins in 2020 - and boy can they pack a punch!
