Top Tips for your Christmas Facebook Advertising Campaign

Top Tips Christmas

Facebook Advertising Campaign

You may have dabbled in Facebook/Instagram advertising last Christmas - or you may not… maybe you had great success or maybe you had no success.... or maybe as I most often find with clients - you really don't know if yours adverts worked or not?!

You haven't worked this hard in 2019 only for your Ad campaign to flop at a critical time of the year for you.

You deserve success!

So make your Facebook Ads campaign count this year for your small business with these top tips!

Get the pixel installed early

If you don’t already have your Facebook Pixel installed - do it now!

Why?

The Facebook Pixel is a piece of code whoch sits across all of your webpages and tracks visitor data whenever someone is also logged on to Facebook (which let’s face it is 99% of the time as we are usually browsing on mobil while we are also logged into our Facebook app.)

Using the pixel you’ll open up a whole new set of audiences to target (more on audiences below) which aren’t available to you otherwise.

Start Early

Start planning your campaign in July/August to start creating in September and get going in October. A recent piece of research from Pinterest said as early as July/August people start pinning ideas for gifts and from September/october start browsing - so you need to be there from then - otherwise your competitor will be.

Look at last year's results

If you ran a Facebook ad campaign last year, take the time to look at the results over the Summer.

What do you want to do differently and how can you improve?

Was there an audience who massively outperformed the other you were targeting?

Was there an advert which resonated with your audience better than the other?

Think carefully about your objective and optimise your campaign for the right result

This is where so many businesses go wrong and select the wrong campaign objective - e.g. you’re after sales but you opt for traffic/reach - Facebook will only go after those people who are most likely to visit your website NOT necessarily to convert to a sale/enquiry - you need to select conversions if that’s what you’re after.

Research your audiences

In September (or earlier if you can!) start to research your audiences - are there some different ones you could make use of?

Some great ones to consider would be:

  • Past purchasers

  • Your email list

  • Past website visitors

  • Instagram Followers

  • Facebook Page fans

  • Lookalikes of past purchasers

  • Lookalikes of your Email / newsletter list

  • A new interest based audience

  • Lookalikes of website visitors

  • Lookalikes of those who’ve engaged with your Facebook Page

  • Lookalikes of those who follow you on Instagram

Start your campaign Live as early as it begins to go mad from October onwards (yes really!)

All too often business owners leave it until November (I’ve even had a call 1st week of December!) to kickstart their Facbook ad campaign.

For the best chance of your campaign succeeding you need to have everything in place well in advance so you have time to test, optimise and scale your campaign.

Have lots of creative up your sleeve to test

Not everything will work first time and it’ll take time to test which creative resonates with your audience - especially if you haven’t run a campaign before or if it was small scale.

Start thinking now about what creative you have up your sleeve and whether you need to get new assets created e.g. a new video which shows how you make your product or tells your story. Maybe you need some high quality photography of your products?

Remember you need your creative to be thumb-stopping at such a busy time in the newsfeed.

Have a great retargeting offer to push your customer to purchase

People are unlikely to purchase first time off the back of 1 of your ads. So make sure you have a really great offer or incentive to push those who didn’t bite to purhase after seeing your retargeting advert.
