'What did you get from your Mum?'

I was asked this the other day and after much thought early in the morning and late at night over the last week, here is my List….!

  1. Insane calendarisation skills

  2. That funny right eyebrow hair

  3. The skills to cook but the ability to put smiles on faces from food

  4. The need to be the first on the dance floor at any given occasion - no matter how inappropriate that might be!

  5. The yearning for ‘us all to be together’

  6. That bit of hair which always flicks out no matter how you try and tame it

  7. The knowledge of etiquette in any situation you find yourself in

  8. The versatility to be the woman who can look the part and act the part …. but in equal measure loves getting muddy, getting messy and being outdoors enjoying what the world has given us

  9. Migraines

  10. The know-how and creativity to ‘put on a good do’ and be the hostess with the mostest

  11. The advice to always wear matching underwear in case you end up in an ambulance

  12. The inspiration to be a working Mum

  13. The advice to never go to bed on an argument with your husband…. and to never let him see you on the loo!

  14. To not just look the other way and cross the road but the instinct to always try and help someone in need

  15. To always say ‘hello’ - manners cost nothing and mean everything. You never know it might be the only word that someone says to them all day

  16. The ability to laugh at oneself - we’re not the smartest cookies in the tin but we sure know how to have a good time!

  17. How to dress happy not perfect

  18. The art of the written word, an appreciation of and the importance of a hand written letter

  19. How art and craft is good for the soul

  20. To always have an open door - it shows you have an open heart

  21. Lifelong learning for always

  22. The importance of community - you get what you put in

  23. How to be a Mother. Full Stop.

What did your Mother give you?
